The LIGHT2015 Project Participates on the ICT 2015 Exhibition in Lisbon, Portugal

The LIGHT2015 Project will be present on the ICT 2015 Innovate, Connect, Transform on 20-22 October 2015 in Lisbon, Portugal, organised by the European Commission, together with the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.

During the 3-day event, an interactive exhibition will dynamically showcase the best-in-class results of existing European ICT Research & Innovation; advanced products from individual companies that started, have grown and benefited from European funding, and much more. Almost 150 exhibitors will be dispersed over six areas within the main exhibition (CCL) and an off-site pavillion in Praça do Comércio.

The three outreach projects funded by the Photonics Public Private Partnership (PPP) within the Horizon 2020 framework (LIGHT2015, GoPhoton! and Photonics4All) will share a space on the exhibition with the GoLight4All stand to increase the visibility of photonics and light-based technologies.

If you happen to be in Lisbon, pass by the ICT 2015 Exhibition to discover about the power of Photonics!

In addition, the ICT 2015 event will also comprise a number of parallel activities:

  • A policy conference presenting the new Commission's policies and initiatives on Research & Innovation in ICT (Horizon 2020 Programme);
  • Many networking opportunities to enhance quality partnerships, help participants find partners, connect Research and Innovation and trigger collaboration;
  • Horizon 2020 Work Programme 2016-2017 thematic sessions, offering detailed information on the funding opportunities in ICT sector;
  • The Startup Europe Forum, offering a set of activities profiling EU policy actions for startups and SMEs, innovators, private and public investors.

About LIGHT2015

LIGHT2015 is a European project funded through the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme of the European Commission. It aims to promote the importance of photonics to young people, entrepreneurs and the general public in all Member States of the EU during the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 (IYL 2015).

LIGHT2015 activities will include LIGHTtalks, a series of inspirational events, which will take place throughout the European Union in different cities at different times for the whole duration of the project in order to bring photonics closer to students and entrepreneurs. A specific series of events targeted to local industry and entrepreneurs, will take place during the period 25-28 September 2015 to take advantage of the international “100 Hours / Weekend of Light” of the global IYL 2015 programme.

Another highlight of LIGHT2015 will be a community experiment on smartphone photonics where thousands of participants from throughout the EU will carry out optical measurements of the sky to yield information related to air pollution. To aid teachers and to inspire student, Photonics kits will be distributed to schools around Europe to support the scientific education at secondary schools.

LIGHT2015 Partners include the European Physical Society (EPS), the European Optical Society (EU), the Institute of Photonics Sciences (ICFO), Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) the National University of Ireland Galway (NUI), Universiteit Leiden and EYESTvzw.
